Welcome to Ascent: The Guide's Journey

The licenced Ascent Coach program will begin when the 2006 season finishes in September. There will be an 'indoor' training element over the winter, ready for coaches to begin running their own programs in Spring 2007.

At a point in the hero's journey, a guide appears to help the hero through the darkest night of his path to enlightenment. The guide takes many forms; the gas station attendant in 'Way of the Peaceful Warrior', the Oracle in the Matrix, the King and the Alchemist in Paulo Coelho's 'The Alchemist', Yoda in 'Star Wars' and of course the Ascent coach during the Ascent Experience.

Being a guide means walking a paradoxical line between support and rejection. When the hero is most certain, the guide must create doubt. When the hero is in doubt, the guide must leave the hero to face his fears alone whilst providing a rock of certainty. The guide is not responsible for the hero, the guide is serving his own higher purpose - to bring about the transformation of mankind through the journeys of many heros.

The job of the guide is to make sure the hero never strays too far from the path whilst leaving the hero enough room to create his own path. Walking in someone else's footsteps is not the path to personal excellence.

To develop truly exceptional skills as a guide, you need a truly exceptional learning experience, something that will draw upon all of your experience as a coach and test your skills to the limit.

The continuing journey from hero to guide is not for the faint-hearted. It is not for people who seek the easy answers. It is not for people who want the certificate to prove they are capable. It is for peaceful warriors, for students of Alchemy, for Jedi who move silently through the world bringing transformation into the lives they touch.
